The Formula No. 5 was inspired by old tweed amps, most notably the 5E3 circuit. The character of the 5E3 is very unique. It has very minimal power filtering, low plate voltages, elemental tone stack, and does next to nothing to control the low end between gain stages, not to mention the under-rated output transformer and speaker. The entire system runs inefficiently resulting in a loose bass, greasy mids, cutting treble, and incredible grit - none of these qualities were ideal or intentional back in the day. In spite of this, over the past five decades the amp inspired some of the coolest, most sought after guitar tones ever recorded.

We've captured the unique qualities of these amps in the Formula No. 5. For this circuit we felt cascaded JFET gainstages yielded the best result. They have a softer sound than MOSFETs. JFETs also have much more natural attack/decay than diode clipped rigs which are pingy on the attack and fizzy on the decay. We chose capacitor types that enhanced the midrange and burnished the treble.

Unlike some other people who sell kits of Catalinbread pedals, this pedal has all of the correct parts to get the sound intended. Not to mention a freaking high quality, thru-hole plated circuit board, not some ferric cloride bathroom methlab etched nonsense.

The HyperPak was inspired by the Anderton Tube Sound Fuzz. There are other clones of this circuit, none using the CD4007 that I am aware of. Why did we use the CD4007? Because we had an assload of them and I think they sound great.

I love plugging a P90 equipt guitar into the HyperPak, it just rocks! You can go from pretty darned clean when picking lightly to crunchy hitting it hard. Cause I am a bit older bastard I think Billy Gibbons, you are free to think anybody you want to.

The Super Chili Picoso is Catalinbread's infamous MOSFET boost.

The SCP has two functions: Buffering Mode turn the boost knob down and you have the perfect buffer, high input impedance, very low output impedance and mirror perfect tone presentation.

Clean Boost Mode provides upward of 35dB of boost that will help you leap through the mix or drive your amp into a natural overdrive. The SCP gives you MORE of what you've already got!

The V8 Fuzztone Generator was born out of the HyperPak. I wanted something fuzzy bass heavy that self osciallated in a cool way. It really doesn't sound like the HyperPak either.

The jokers in the band Kowloon Walled City claim to use the V8. But I dunno if I believe 'em. All I know is I like their music quite a bit.
